Calidus Engineering Ltd is a growing company based in Cornwall specialising in the design, R&D and production of custom systems for the downhole oil & gas and geothermal industries through in-house design, development and our own manufacturing facilities. The R&D side of the company is a diverse mix of mechanics, hydraulics, electronics, software and manufacturing engineers who work closely together to develop complex devices and systems.
We are currently looking to recruit two engineers as we build a balanced team with a range of experience.
Reporting to the Principal Software Engineer, the successful applicants will engage with the engineering teams to develop original software. You will play a crucial role both in the functionality and presentation of finished products to deliver unique world-class products; high temperature cameras, seismic systems, logging and other downhole tools. You will be required to work within the company's design processes and practices, maintaining and contributing to the in-house standards, testing and reviewing the work of others and being tested. Two key development applications are:-
• Highly reliable and efficient embedded software working in the downhole environment.
• Distinctive, user-friendly Windows application software for logging and analysing geotechnical measurements.
Essential requirements:
• Enthusiastic, positive attitude with a desire to learn and apply new skills.
• Team player with an ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Proven ability in developing original software using C, C++ or C#.
• Demonstrable analytical and problem-solving skills.
• A good BSc or equivalent in an engineering-related subject, such as Maths, Physics, Computer Science or Engineering.
• Undertake limited travel as part of system development and field testing.
Desirable requirements:
• Experience of the oil and gas, or geothermal industries.
• Demonstrable passion for developing high quality software.
• Experience of reviewing software.
• Ability to design intuitive user interfaces.
• Experience of 8051, PIC and ARM-based microcontrollers.
• Experience of revision control and issue management systems.
